BOOK DESIGN
(EMMA LOUISE PRIN)

MANDATE

To design a hardcover book and slipcase that reflects the photographer Emma Louise Prin. She is a French photographer that uses the technique of pinhole photography from  old tea tins.

Book opened to pinhole page.
Opened book and slip case.

IDEATION

This technique is what inspired me for my book design, which I based this whole book on the idea of the “pinhole”. A quote from her that inspired me was “The images tell the memory of the skin & soul”.

Opened book on early influences.

APPROACH

The way Emma Louise Prin does her photography is by using a metal tin box and poking a hole in it, which then captures the light and creates these stunning photographs. I was inspired by this, which led me to the idea of having the slipcase be the “pinhole” and the book being the outcome of her photographs. The slipcase has a hole in the middle of the “&” which then shines light on the book itself.
